One of the most common things I hear from new clients is, "But I can't even draw a stick
figure."
There is a deep-seated belief that to engage in art making, one must be "good" at it.
Art therapy challenges this notion entirely.
Process Over Product
In our studio, we focus on the process of creating, not the final product. The act of
choosing a color that matches your mood, or making a chaotic scribble to release anger, is where
the
healing happens. The aesthetic value of the final piece is irrelevant.
"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." — Pablo Picasso
Your Inner Critic
Art therapy provides a safe space to confront your inner critic. That voice that says "this
looks
ugly" or "you're doing it wrong" is often the same voice that fuels anxiety and self-doubt in
other
areas of your life. By learning to create without judgment, you practice self-compassion.
Getting Started
If you're hesitant, start small.
- Doodle while on the phone.
- Use a coloring book.
- Play with playdough.
Remember, there is no "right" way to do art therapy. There is only
your way.
